Neighborhoods in Winter Haven

The lakes of Winter Haven
Winter Haven’s 50 lakes is the city’s most prominent feature. Two of the city’s most distinctive chains of lakes are the northern chain with nine lakes and the southern chain, which features 16 lakes. Lakes within the northern and southern chains are all interconnected by several canals. The city opened a canal lock system in 2011, connecting both the northern and southern chains.
Many of the lakes in Winter Haven are known as “solution lakes,” which are formed when limestone ground dissolves. In addition to being a superb destination for bass fishing, many of the lakes are also great for wildlife viewing, as visitors will be able to spot a variety of different species, including great blue herons, alligators, and bald eagles.
